Late this morning, rescue crews along with Dunn's Corners Fire Department and Charlestown Police Department were dispatched to the area of Blue Shutters Beach for a reported sailboat in distress

Charlestown Surf Rescue Lifeguards identified the sailboat after hearing the dispatch and advised that the sailboat was 500 yards off the coast. The RI Marine Task Force was activated bringing Charlestown’s Marine 6, Dunn’s Corners Marine 1, Narragansett Marine 2, and North Kingstown Marine 5 to the scene with a unified command post established at Blue Shutters Beach Pavilion. Marine 6 ended up making contact with the sailboat about a mile off shore in the area of the Charlestown Breachway. Once contact was made, it was determined to be a good intent call and all marine units were placed back in service.
