As temperatures drop, remember: No ice is 100% safe.

* Check Thickness: Ice should be at least 4 inches thick for walking and 8-12 inches for vehicles.

* Avoid Alone: Always go with a buddy and let someone know your plan.

* Carry Safety Gear: Keep ice picks, a rope, and a whistle handy.

* Know the Signs: Cracks, slush, or running water indicate weak ice.
